UMM-GAPEKSINDO East Java Strengthened the Engineer Professional Program Acceleration

The University of Muhammadiyah Malang built a new collaboration with the Regional Leadership Council of the Indonesian National Construction Company Association (GAPEKSINDO) of East Java Province especially in organizing the Department of Professional Engineer Program (PS PPI) at UMM.

Wednesday (4/3), GAPEKSINDO invited the UMM to strengthen cooperation. One of the ways is by signing the draft agreement on the acceleration of the profession engineer program at PS PPI UMM. The signing was made by the General Chairperson of GAPEKSINDO DPD East Java Province, H. Adi Purwoto, SE. ST., With the Vice-Rector I of UMM, Prof. Dr. Syamsul Arifin, M.Sc.

In his remarks, Adi revealed that this collaboration was a form of Government program contribution in meeting the needs of engineering professionals. As stated in Law Number 11 of 2014 which states, every engineering work had to be carried out by an Engineer.

"Indonesia has very few engineers. Only 1,000 of the 1,000 residents became engineers. When compared with Korea, Thailand and Vietnam, Vietnam averages 100: 1. In the construction world, there are very many engineering graduates, but the engineers are few, "Adi said.

Meanwhile, Syamsul revealed that this collaboration was to realize synergy and triple helix collaboration, between the government, academics, and the business world. The Helix would be able to accelerate efforts in dealing with an independent campus that had been declared by the Indonesian Minister of Education and Culture.

"UMM itself has run the collaboration of Penta helix, namely the government, academics, the business world, mass media and the community such as carried out in the making of the Hydro Power Plant so that UMM graduates are ready to work, "said Syamsul.

For this reason, Syamsul continued, in this collaboration did not only participate in PS PPI study but also participate in an internship for UMM students in GAPEKSINDO member companies, as well as the provision of teaching staff/expert staff. (win)
