The invitation to become a farmer has recently been widely echoed, even by the Republic of Indonesia, Joko Widodo. This can not be separated from the lack of regeneration of farmers among young people. This phenomenon inspired UMMTalks to discuss it more deeply. With the theme “Petani Muda Jawab Tantangan Presiden” this program presented Agrotechnology Lecturer at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) Dr. Ir. Wahono, MT. and Founder of Everfresh Indoagro Dimas Agung Mahendra. The program was broadcast via live Youtube on Saturday (14/8).

Starting the program, Wahono explained that currently, the farmers are around 45 years old and over. In the next 15 years, they will reach 60 years of age. Most of them also have no substitute due to the lack of interest of young people.

He considered that several factors caused this phenomenon to occur. One of them is the emergence of most people who think that farming is a traditional occupation. Even from an economic point of view, many people believe that farming is an unprofitable job.

According to him, a small step that who can take to invite the youth is with motivation. He said studying agriculture and becoming a farmer could lead to heaven and wealth on earth. If processed correctly, agriculture can provide significant benefits. In addition, if you plant with alms and prayer, the agricultural products will also be beneficial to the community to give rewards.

"Being a farmer is one of the ways to be successful in this world and the hereafter. Get big profits as well as abundant rewards when farming, "he explained.

On the same occasion, Dimas Agung mentioned several reasons why most young people do not want to become farmers. One of them is a considerable risk that lurks when the harvest comes. In addition, most farmers still depend on collectors, giving rise to fears of difficult crops to sell.

Seeing this, the UMM Agribusiness Alumni took the initiative to establish Everfresh Indoagro. The business emerged from the lack of a market that explicitly provides vegetables. Therefore, he is determined to build a vegetable market not to be confused about selling their crops.

"Hopefully, my small steps with Everfresh Indoagro can trigger young people to be involved in the world of agriculture. So that later it can replace the previous generation in developing agriculture in a better direction," he explained. (haq/wil)
