As a private University under Muhammadiyah Foundation, University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) is required to be independent in organizing the campus. That is why, UMM initiates to establish business units to support funding and ease student fees.
There are 12 business units owned by UMM. UMM mission “Graduate in 4 years, Work, and Independent” initiated by Rector of UMM, Fauzan leads the students to be partnered with those business units.
Recently, UMM professionally cooperates with students to develop UMM Inn, one of business units owned by UMM. UMM Inn officially launched Ruang 2.0 Coffee & Library in front of the hotel yard on Tuesday (15/3). The Grand Opening brought a library concept and there were also band performances performed by Student Activity Unit (UKM) Band Student Association (IKABAMA UMM). This is a strategic way because “Ngopi (drinking coffee)” by using manual brew becomes a trend in Indonesia, especially in Malang.
Vice Rector II UMM, Nazarudin Malik said that this is as a support to entrepreneurial students. 2 owners of Ruang 2.0 Coffee & Library are UMM students who successfully develop this Cafe. Nazarudin said, “This is done because UMM supports and is ready to train the students to be entrepreneurs and develop their businesses”.
The owners of Ruang 2.0 Coffee & Library, Andi Ardiansyah and Egy Prawigit said that it is a great chance to cooperate with their campus.
Ardi, who is also the owner of Ruang 1.0 Coffee which is located in Jl.Sidomakmur Dau-Malang, said, “We offer Café and Library concept because we support literacy. It makes UMM interested in us. This is great”.
Ruang 2.0 Coffee & Library will open everyday at 10.00-00.00. Moreover, UMM will establish Taman Rekreasi Sengkaling (Sengkaling Tourism Park) and Youth Corner. Youth Corner will be functioned as a location for students to develop their businesses without paying for the rent. (lus)
