University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) once again asserted itself as one of the prestigious universities in Indonesia. This time, Biology Education Department of Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP) achieve an accomplishment. Biology Education Department of FKIP UMM approved as the best Biology Education Department (number one) from the same 143 departments in Indonesia, both PTN and PTS, according to the registered scientific publication indicators in portalSINTA Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti).
SINTA (Science and Technology Index) is a portal that contains Science and Technology performance measurement which includes the performance of researchers, writers, authors, journal performance, and the performance of science and technology institutions. SINTA was created to accommodate research results that published online. So that people who can contribute to the SINTA Portal are researchers and lecturers.
Refer to the http://sinta2.ristekdikti.go.id/departments/afiliasi?kdprodi=84205&view=affiliation, it shows that the Biology Education Department isin the first position. With the score 91 (5 years Score) and 365 (all years score). The score difference is quite much with other PTN, such as UM (59/191), UNM (57/193, UNESA (43/122), and UPI (21/203).
The rank in “5 Years Score” is according to the past 5 years score, the publications are calculated from 2015 until (around) last May 2019. While the “All Year Score” is calculated fromthe whole year of publication. This last five years score will be used for several Sinta Award Categories. With this score, universities, lecturers/researchers, and other parties are expected to be more motivated after seeing productivity in the last three years.

Responding to this achievement, the Dean of FKIPUMM Dr.Poncojari Wahyono, M.Kes. said that he is not really surprised. According to him, this achievement is very deserved by Biology Education Department FKIP UMM as they keep on innovating in term of publication. All of the lectures were active in conducting research with quality, then publish their scientific articles in international reputation journals.
In fact, that culture is contagious to the students. The final semester students were automatically forming their thesis to be a scientific article that will be presented in various national and international seminars, also at least in accredited journals.
The Dean of FKIP UMM also explained that the tradition of being a champion and achieve something indeed became the prevalence of study programs in the UMM FKIP environment.
Especially, this department that led by Dr. Iin Hindun, M.Kes was internationally recognized inthe form of certification from ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA), which is the first Biology Education Department of Indonesia. This department was also received an “A” Accreditation (2011-2021), KAN and ISO-17025 Accredited Biology Laboratory, has a Sinta 2 and internationally indexed accredited Journal (JPBI), and international cooperation programs.
