At the 114th Graduation Ceremony of Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) on July 18, Deputy Minister of Environment and Forestry Alue Dohong, M.Sc. Ph.D., praised UMM for its educational programs focused on the environment and forestry. According to him, this is a tangible commitment to producing a generation that cares about the sustainability of the universe, especially considering that life heavily depends on the stability of natural ecosystems.

"Creating change agents from young people is a strategic task. We need to maintain the stability of nature. An unstable climate will undoubtedly have a negative impact on our future generations. Rising temperatures, pollution, and rising sea levels all need our attention and joint stabilization efforts," he explained.

Furthermore, he explained that one of the strategies of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) to optimize natural resources (SDA) into renewable energy sources is by creating Micro Hydro Power Plants (PLTMH). These PLTMHs utilize the strong flow of rivers, which are usually only used for agricultural irrigation.

"We need to massively develop PLTMHs because, in addition to generating electricity, the flowing water also automatically optimizes the agricultural irrigation system. How can it be optimal? Because the water flow is also maintained. Besides, it can educate the community about the benefits of natural resources for renewable energy. This cycle is what we need to create and maintain," he added.

Meanwhile, Secretary of the Daily Advisory Board (BPH) of UMM, Prof. Dr. Fauzan M.Pd., delivered an important message to all graduates. According to him, the dynamics of life are very unpredictable. However, Fauzan gave the graduates a key to facing these dynamics.

"Thinking, acting, and behaving in a renewed manner is a message I tirelessly convey to the white campus students. The future life is very dynamic, and like it or not, you must face different environments and situations. Besides, one of the characteristics of good people is those who are always beneficial to the environment," he said.

On the other hand, UMM Rector Prof. Dr. Nazaruddin Malik, M.Si expressed his gratitude to all the parents of the graduates who entrusted their children to UMM for their education. He emphasized that UMM has provided the best provisions for its students and alumni in facing the future, including the Center of Excellence (CoE) program as a platform to develop interests and talents to compete in the job market.

"Never forget the Red Jacket of the White Campus. The future is very challenging, so keep learning because learning has no limits. The world is always evolving, and you must be able to handle it," Nazar concluded. (faq/wil/fajr)
