Although studying in the field of education, Primary School Teacher Education (PGSD) students can also venture into entrepreneurship. This was emphasized by Yorita Febry Lismanda, the founder and owner of Little Bee Day Care, during a workshop held by the PGSD program at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) in mid-December. The event, titled Shaping Quality Educators with an Entrepreneurial Mindset, was attended by hundreds of students with entrepreneurial potential.
"Educator or entrepreneur? Of course, you can be both as long as you can manage your time. What's equally important is how you take responsibility for the choices and opportunities you pursue," she said.
Yorita also emphasized that if one wants to become an educator, they must be able to guide, teach, and patiently nurture the younger generation to develop knowledge, skills, and good character. She explained that while opportunities to become teachers are gradually decreasing, the need for education remains essential throughout life.
Meanwhile, if the participants want to become entrepreneurs, they must adopt a mindset focused on creating value, generating profits, and addressing the needs of society. To pursue entrepreneurship, they need to learn how to cultivate a creative and innovative spirit, take risks, and remain solution-oriented.
Interestingly, if PGSD students want to pursue both paths, they can combine them through several ventures. For instance, they could start online courses or training programs, teaching skills such as graphic design, coding, or foreign languages. Another option is selling educational products, such as writing textbooks, developing educational apps, or selling learning modules.

According to her, through entrepreneurship, they are not only seeking profit but also providing solutions to societal needs. "As the Prophet Muhammad said, 'Engage in trade, for trade is nine out of ten doors of sustenance. The best work is that of a man with his own hands and every fair trade,'" she stated.
On the other hand, the event coordinator, Bahrul Ulum, M.Pd., stated that the workshop aims to instill an entrepreneurial spirit in PGSD UMM students, enabling them to develop strategies and opportunities for delivering quality education in the global era. The hope is that they will be inspired and capable of becoming both educators and entrepreneurs in the future.(*/wil/ind)
