VIVAnews - U.S. efforts to block the UN Security Council issued a statement condemning Israel's attack on Gaza. According to AS, the curse of UNSC counter-productive because it will not solve the problem.

Reuters reported, according to the U.S. statement must be approved by consensus not by tracing the roots of the problem. The U.S. and Israel believe, due to the violence in Gaza Hamas missile attacks that threaten Israeli civilians.

"By not calling for a halt immediately and forever launching rockets from Gaza into Israel, the UN Security Council's statement failed to contribute constructively to the diplomatic solution being sought. Due to this reason, we do not agree to this statement," said Erin Pelton, a spokesman for the U.S. mission at the headquarters United Nations, New York.

The rejection of this statement could potentially lead to a new psychological warfare between the U.S. and Russia. Because the Russians asserted that if the 15-member UN Security Council failed to spawn a statement, then they will initiate the resolution, a step firmer than the statement of the board.

Russia said the resolution to stop Israeli violence and support international efforts for regional peace plan will be implemented soon.

Earlier, the U.S. and Russia had strained after the Kremlin and Beijing vetoed a UN Security Council resolution condemning the violence Bashar al-Assad in Syria.

UNSC resolution will be generated if they are supported by nine members and no veto from the five permanent members - Russia, China, Britain, U.S. and France. The diplomats said that if voted on a resolution on Israel, the U.S. will likely veto.

Meanwhile, as many as 130 people were killed in Gaza during Israel since Wednesday last week. Diplomatic efforts are still at a stalemate as both sides refused to stop the first attack. (Umi)
