Moskow (ANTARA News) - Iran will deploy a fleet of warships to the Mediterranean Sea, says Chief of Navy Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari.

"Fleet Navy warships to-24 will patrol the northern Indian Ocean, the Gulf of Aden, Bab-el-Mandeb, the Red Sea, the Suez Canal and the Mediterranean Sea for three months and will even sail as far as Southeast Asian countries," said Sayyari was quoted as saying by Press TV.

A fleet of warships to the 23 it would return to the country next week, he added, as quoted by RIA Novosti.

Referring to the naval training recently dubbed Velayat 91, Sayyari said the maneuvers that show Iran's naval capabilities and its ability to deal with any threat to the interests of the Islamic Republic.

On Friday, Iran's Navy launched a naval exercise dubbed Velayat six days to 91, to retain the "maritime borders and keep lasting peace in the region."

The training covers a wide area, including the Strait of Hormuz, the Sea of ​​Oman, northern Indian Ocean, the Gulf of Aden and the Strait of Bab-el-Mandeb.
