VIVAnews – Candidates for president of the United States from Republican Party, Mitt Romney, while it outperformed the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party, Barack Obama. As reported by Fox News, 7 November 2012, Romney has managed to garner 154 electoral vote, while Obama 143.
Romney projected to dominate the electoral vote in Alabama, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Arkansas, West Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, Indiana, and Kentucky. While Obama menguasal projected electoral vote in Illinois, Delaware, Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Vermont, and the District of Columbia.
If the electoral vote for one candidate has reached 270, the candidate was certain to win the U.S. election. In the U.S., the winner of the election is not determined by popular vote of the majority, but through special accounting mechanism called the electoral college.
According to BBC news station, based on the mechanics of it, each state was given a number of electoral votes in different compositions, according to the proportion of the population respectively. The winner is determined when it won at least 270 electoral votes. (eh)
