The Process of Making Short Film (Photo : Special) |
Great news comes from the D3 Nursing study program, Faculty of Vocational Studies, University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). It was Adif Adriansyah, a third-semester student who won first place for best cinematography at the National Film Festival at the end of July. Adif, as he is familiarly called, managed to beat more than 50 teams from various campuses throughout Indonesia.
Adif said the topic was brought up because it is close to people's daily lives. It is about how they work together to solve their day-to-day problems. "Our discussion in the movie was designed to be simple, yet meaningful. We also quoted the philosophical phrase urip iku urup (trans: Urip iku urup is a Javanese philosophy that means life is a flame. It means that life should be useful for others around us.) and made it the title of the movie. The philosophy was also taken from the current situation. Many individualistic youths are ignorant of their surroundings, and still prioritize selfishness," he said.

Adif said in manifesting this philosophy; his movie presents the values of the struggle of Indonesian heroes in aiming for independence. Followed by the implementation that the youth can do in the current era. With a simple presentation, he believes the audience can capture the intent and content of the movie.
"The content of the movie is related to the struggle of the heroes when they fought against the colonizers. The value of urip itu urup is very clearly displayed in their struggle. Then followed by a scene of a father advising his son to be more social and live in harmony with his friends," explained Adif.
Human beings are not born in this world to stand alone, be powerful, and be all for themselves. However, humans are born to give to each other and help each other without any strings attached.

He also remembered motivating other students with potential, especially in cinematography. According to him, They do not need to be insecure about their abilities or majors that align with their preferences. The most important thing is consistency and the willingness to learn.
"Even though I am from Nursing study program, The world of videography is still a hobby that I enjoy. You can still work through your hobby. Work and achievement are not necessarily linear with your major. My main goal is to still be able to produce some works," he concluded. (Put/Faq/Wil)
