To hone students' skills to contribute to the agriculture and plantation sectors, the Agribusiness Department of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) sent their students to intern in Japan. The program is focused on equipping students with the skills the industrial world needs. Until now, the study program has already delegated dozens of its students for international internships.
About this program, the Head of the Agribusiness of UMM, Ary Bachtiar, M.Si., notes that choosing Japan as an internship place is due to the country's technology and innovation. The international internship program collaborates with Lingua Global Utama and various companies in Japan. Before departure, the students were trained in the Japanese language and basic skills. Then, they were allocated to several locations, such as Ogoshifarm, Strawberry Farm Go, Indei Farm, etc.
In the process, students will learn about field management, nursery, plant care, and fruit and vegetable harvest. Introduction to modern technology in the agriculture sector also becomes a specific discussion for the intern students. Ary expects the student to implement the gained knowledge and experience in Indonesia.
The Head of the Study Program emphasizes that the intern students can obtain several advantages, such as course equivalency, employability, and networking. It does not rule out of possibility that they can be a partner company when opening agriculture and plantation jobs in Indonesia.
"The participants of the international internship will get a course conversion of 20 credits, networking opportunities in international agriculture and plantation sectors, and intensive learning related to modern agriculture and plantation technology, and collaborate with various companies in Japan when promoting job opportunities in Indonesia," said he.
Last, Ary highly hopes that the output the students receive from skills and perspectives will enhance them to be pioneers of technology-based agriculture and plantations in Indonesia.
"The agriculture and plantation systems in Japan have advanced. It can be an example for Indonesia. Moreover, our land is ideal for the agricultural and plantation sectors. One of the ways is to improve the quality of human resources through the international internship program by the Agribusiness of UMM," concluded the Head of the Department. (imh/faq/wil)
