Haziz Hidayat, an alumnus of the Sharia Economics Study Program at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), is one of the youth representatives at the 2024 World Water Forum (WWF) in Bali this May. Representing the UMM SDGs Center, he contributes to providing solutions to global issues, especially related to water.

“At the WWF Forum, I shared stories and ideas with other young people. I made friendships with friends from various countries and introduced UMM, which is actively carrying out its mission through the UMM SDGs Center,” he said.

He feels very proud to be part of the WWF from UMM and to introduce the White Campus to the world. Haziz, as he is called, also learned a lot about current issues at the global level, especially regarding water availability. After all, water is indeed an important part of human survival.

In addition, he also introduced UMM's Center of Excellence (CoE) to representatives from various countries at the WWF. According to him, CoE can be a solution and can be applied on campus and even in other regions. Moreover, through UMM CoE, students are trained in various skills according to their talents and interests to prepare for a better future for themselves and the environment.

The 10th WWF held in Nusa Dua, Bali, has three specific agreed-upon missions, namely the center of excellence on water and climate resilience, mainstream integrated water management in small lands, and regular world lake days activities. “These three WWF missions can also serve as a model for UMM in establishing new water-themed CoEs. Moreover, UMM’s CoE has been running for quite some time, so establishing similar programs will not be difficult,” he added.

Finally, he hopes that his and UMM’s involvement in the WWF forum can be an opener and motivation for students to participate in maintaining global water availability. After this forum, Haziz’s specific target is to organize and establish a special water committee that can be a focus for UMM to participate in preserving the earth. (tri/wil/fajr)
