The Aquaculture Study Program at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) is collaborating with Dunia Usaha dan Dunia Industri (DUDI) once again. On this occasion, they signed an MoU with PT Aqua Prima Sumber Rejeki for the program implementation of the Center of Excellence (CoE) Professional Shrimp class. The event, which took place on June 26th, was attended by the companies that have become UMM Aquaculture partners. Aside from cooperation, the department of aquaculture and partners also want to discuss and evaluate each other.
Regarding this collaboration, Ir. Heri Sudarmono, the head of PT Aqua Prima Sumber Rezeki, explained that through the shrimp professional class CoE program, UMM Aquaculture has proven to prepare its students to be able to compete in the world of work. According to him, students who will do the program in his company are entrusted by the university, so they will be given maximum provision.

"We need to give students a real experience of work and how to understand every process that exists. The facilities are also provided, and we encourage them to use them as student learning materials. We are very happy to be able to collaborate with UMM because it has been trusted to produce students who are full of achievements and are ready to work directly in DUDI," he explained.
On the same occasion, Prof. Dr. Ir. Damat, MP, IPM, as the head of the UMM CoE, also attended the workshop. He explained that the aquaculture study program's shrimp professional class could be followed by other study programs. Yet it still prioritizes aquaculture students who already have the basics. Each company will get four students to intern and learn there. This small number is so that the participants can really understand the work process.
According to him, students need to go to the real workplace directly. Instead of sitting in class and listening to theory, "We believe it will be more effective if students see and practice more directly. Especially with the training from the practitioners that are really involved in the industry," he said.
One of the Shrimp CoE participants, Putri Ramadhani, said that she learned a lot about good shrimp management in the field. She learned how to manage shrimp properly, including how to produce it, how to market it, and how to increase sales. She is interested in joining the program because the number of youth who want to learn to be shrimp entrepreneurs is very low. Therefore, she wants to be one of them and take advantage of the opportunities available. "Apart from gaining knowledge while working with DUDI for one semester, I also gained contacts with other companies when there was a work visit," she said.
The Aquaculture Study Program targets its students to be able to work and be independent after graduating from the campus. Currently, there are 145 seats prepared for this CoE. In fact, students of the aquaculture study program who have graduated through the shrimp professional class program have achieved 72% job absorption in companies with guaranteed job prospects.
