University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) continues to facilitate and encourage its students to develop ideas and innovations. One of them was conducted by the UMM Electrical Engineering Study Program by holding a Capstone Design Expo, which presented dozens of technological innovations by students. The agenda, held on July 15, has attracted much interest from other academicians and provided new inspiration.

The most interesting innovation is the Internet of Things (IoT)-based air quality measuring device. The tool made by Taris and the team can measure air quality in real-time. This tool has been tested in several areas of Malang, including Sigura-gura. In addition, there is also an automatic chicken feed that can be used remotely using a mobile phone or website. This tool can also feed chickens according to a predetermined schedule. There are also dozens of other inventions, such as smart gardens and others.

Regarding the expo, the Head of the UMM Electrical Engineering Study Program, Khusnul Hidayat, M.T., said the project design helps students to complete their studies on time. The innovations created can be continued and outlined as a thesis so students do only one of the same difficult things.

"The development of this technological innovation also enables to learn how to design an engineering project. It also encourages the Kelulusan Tepat Waktu (KTW) (trans: on-time graduation) program," he added.

Hidayat said that one of the most significant factors that make electrical engineering students graduate on time is the Center of Excellence (CoE). According to him, CoE provides many benefits, starting from a significant increase in skills following what the industry needs to accelerate the students' final project process.

Moreover, the students are also required to do internships at various partners. Not only for one month but four to six months. Therefore, they can acquire in-depth experience and knowledge related to their field. This will impact the quality and ease of competing later in the work world.

"Capstone design expo is also a step for electrical engineering UMM to fulfill accreditation requirements. Whether it is at the national or even international level such as the Indonesia Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (IABEE)," he concluded. (Put/Wil)
