UMM Sociology Alumnus Now Manages Information Systems at a Hospital in Jayapura

Seto Aji Nurkhotib, S.Sos, an alumnus of the Sociology Study Program at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), now serves as the Head of the Information Systems Unit at Ramela Muara Tami Regional General Hospital (RSUD) in Jayapura, Papua. During his studies, Aji was known as an active student in various student organizations. This organizational experience has been highly influential in supporting his current career.

After graduating from UMM, Aji decided to pursue a career in information technology, despite his academic background in sociology. This decision was not made without reason. Aji saw how information systems could play a crucial role in improving services in the healthcare sector, specifically in hospitals.

"I want to bring change by implementing an effective information system at RSUD Ramela Muara Tami. This is a big challenge, but also an opportunity to learn and contribute more," Aji explained.

As the head of the unit, Aji is responsible for ensuring that the hospital's information system operates smoothly and efficiently. He collaborates with his team to develop a system that can handle various administrative and operational needs of the hospital.

Aji's background in sociology provides him with a strong foundation for understanding and addressing human and organizational challenges in implementing information technology in a hospital setting. This allows Aji to bring a more balanced approach between technology and social aspects, ultimately enhancing the quality of healthcare services at RSUD Ramela Muara Tami.

Aji also shared that he was actively involved in internal campus organizations, such as the Sociology Student Association (Himasogi). These experiences taught him how to manage a group, think critically, interact with diverse people, and overcome various challenges. He believes that his involvement in these organizations during college provided him with opportunities to build a broad network, which is beneficial in the professional world.

"I met many people from different backgrounds. This helped me understand different perspectives and apply them in my current work," he said.

The experiences and skills Aji gained during his college years continue to be his main assets in his current role. He emphasizes that communication skills and adaptability are two essential things he always holds onto in any situation.

"The key to success is good communication and the ability to adapt to change. These are valuable lessons I learned from my college days," Aji concluded.
