Competition in the world of work is waiting for new graduates from the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). There will be many challenges that are ready to be conquered. UMM alumnus Khabibullah Kanafie conveyed this to the graduates at the 104th UMM graduation last Tuesday (23/6). Meanwhile, Kanafie is the Senior Manager of Operations and Manufacturing Refenery of PT. Pertamina.
Furthermore, Kanafie said that in reaching a dream, there must be sacrifices and a process that must pass. According to him, the knowledge gained at UMM was more than sufficient. It's just a matter of how scholars put it to good use.
He also revealed a series of tips that fresh graduates can do to prepare for the future. First, new scholars must define and have a dream with knowledge and understanding of themselves. According to him, graduates must know their capabilities, skills, and achievements when they want to achieve their goals.
"So we can see how far our portfolio has come to be used as capital to reach the future. By knowing ourselves and our goals, we will also understand how close we are to reaching our desired dreams," he added.
Kanafie also told what capital a fresh graduate needs to be able to compete in the world of work. Starting with cognitive abilities, namely how a person sees problems and overcomes them. Then complex competence, namely how the educational value while being a student. It can be judged from the cumulative index of achievement owned.
Third, fresh graduates must have soft competence, namely the ability to regulate emotions and communicate with others. Fourth, they must have other values such as abilities outside the department or the world they have been involved in during college.
"Apart from the four capitals, we must also have the courage to take action and continue to add value to ourselves. Do not forget to base your ideas on the intention of worship. God willing, if effort and prayer are balanced, dreams will be easy to grasp," Kanafie said.
In line with what Kanafie said, UMM Chancellor Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd. Judged that scholars would find extraordinary demands. How they will enter the world is uncertain. The community has also been waiting for the presence of graduates to become problem solvers.
"You will also be a role model and a leader in the community. So don't waste their hopes for those of you who are alumni of UMM. I hope you can become good human beings for the country, nation, and religion," he said.
Interestingly, there is also the impression of a message from an international student from Afghanistan, namely Sayed Momin Hashemi. He revealed that when he first entered the White Campus, he was afraid and embarrassed that he would be ridiculed. But as it turned out, he got many supportive friends.
"From there, I learned that we must support each other wherever we come from, regardless of ethnicity or religion. I am also grateful to be able to gain knowledge at UMM because the place is comfortable, the learning environment is fun, and the facilities are adequate for discussion and sharing activities," he concluded.
