As a representative and on behalf of Indonesia, this is an opportunity that is not for everyone. However, it is being realized by Aprilisfiya Handayani, a graduate of the Accounting study program at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), who produced coffee products and was successfully noticed by coffee lovers from the cities of Helsinki, Finland, and Talin, Estonia.

April, her nickname, shares that she started her coffee business by joining International Business Matching (IBM). She submitted business data that she had in 2023 and was successfully qualified along with ten other participants. "I went to the two places last April. Each participant had interesting and quality innovations and products, including coffee. Incidentally, the coffee I brought came from Dampit, my birthplace. The uniqueness of this coffee can be seen from the way it is treated, which results in a unique aroma like caramel. It also has a long history,” she added.

Furthermore, she explained the process of making the Dampit coffee that she offers at the event. It starts with the washing process. The coffee that is picked must go through a fermentation process for approximately three days, then wet grinded. After going through the first step, Dampit coffee needs to go through the semi-washed process, which is washed again and dried. Then the last is fully washed, and the coffee is again washed and dried.

From the IBM event, April said she got many opportunities to establish business partners in Finland and Estonia. This can increase the potential of Indonesia's exports and imports to the international market. According to her, Finland and Estonia are good target markets for her coffee business because the trading activities between the two countries are still wide open. It can make profits ranging from tens to hundreds of millions.

“From eleven qualified participants, we finally created an organization called Liga Kopi Indonesia (LKI), which is directly supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. Finally, we were sent to Helsinki and Talin to represent Indonesia in the annual cultural festival,” she said.

Currently, April is preparing for her master's degree while running her coffee business. (ri/wil/put)
