Becoming a diplomat is a dream for some youth. Unfortunately, many youths aspire to become diplomats but still need to learn how to become one and the process that will be experienced. It was emphasized by the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Tunisia for 2017-2021, Prof. (Ris) Ikrar Nusa Bhakti, PhD in a book review entitled "Diplomasi Tiga Zaman" (trans: Diplomacy of Three Ages).

The Chancellor's Special Staff wrote the book for International Cooperation of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Dr. Hc. Priyo Iswanto, S.Hum., M.H. Priyo was the Indonesian Ambassador to Colombia. His work was outstanding and received various awards, including the Carlos Lemos Simmonds Award.

In the book review organized on December 9th, Ikrar said that Priyo's book had been systematically collected and directed the youth to be adaptable toward three-age jobs. According to him, the publication of this book provides exciting benefits, especially in helping each generation become educated about various problems and find ways to overcome them with an intelligent framework.

"From this book, we can see that the process of diplomacy is not an instant thing. Being an ambassador comes with great responsibility. There are 18 attractive points, one being Perestroika and Gasnus, an interesting initiative in this book inspired by President Soeharto. This book discusses the real story of Priyo," he said.

According to him, this book has exciting advantages and unique characteristics since it is up-to-date and discussed using language that is easy to understand. Thus, it is easy for readers to understand the content of the discussion and encourage them to be more creative in their minds.

"Encouraging readers to feel what they read is a suitable description for this book. Based on his experiences and discussions with great people, this book is full of expensive experiences. Priyo shares the bitter-sweet life of being an ambassador and diplomat, including when a rogue taxi driver kidnapped him," he said.

Meanwhile, Priyo explained that finishing the book took him over a year. There is a reason why the book is entitled 'Diplomasi Tiga Zaman', which discusses Priyo's experiences in three significant eras—starting with the bipolar era when there were cold wars between East and West. Then, the second era, the unipolar era, which he claims directed globalization. Finally, in the third multipolar era, the United States began to loosen up and establish China, Brazil, Indonesia, and others.

"During my 36-year career as a diplomat, I have had many unique experiences. Hopefully, this book can provide a new definition of diplomacy that could bring interest to the public, students, or international relations academics," he concluded. (ri/wil/put)
