University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) once again hosted a series of engaging events. This time, the Gramedia Goes to Campus program provided a variety of exciting activities for young people and students. The events included self-development talks, skill-enhancing workshops, and several interesting tryouts, all taking place over two days, from October 23 to 24.
On the first day, students and young people had the opportunity to participate in various workshops and tryouts. Activities included career aptitude tests, an IELTS tryout, a CV writing workshop, and job interview practice in English to excel students prepare for their future careers. This collaboration between UMM and Gramedia aimed to enhance and train students' soft skills, with over 300 students taking part in the activities.

On the second day, a lineup of expert speakers was featured. Among them was Luluk HF, an author of the book “Mariposa” and an alumnus of UMM, along with Gus Dhofir, author of “Peradaban Sarung”, and Tyo Guritno, CEO and Co-Founder of Inspigo. They discussed various interesting topics to help students prepare for their careers, boost their confidence, and compete effectively in the job market.
In her presentation, Luluk HF emphasized the importance of a strong mindset for novice writers, advising them not to have overly high expectations for their works. The key is commitment to continue creating and making an impact. One effective strategy she suggested is creating a personal achievement ladder, allowing writers, especially beginners, to track their progress and clarify their future direction.
“It's normal to have ups and downs in motivation because happiness isn't a constant state. We must understand ourselves; during low periods, don't force yourself to write. Take time to relax until your mood improves, then you can try writing again,” she advised, offering tips for maintaining consistency as a writer.
Meanwhile, Heri Darmawan from Gramedia's board of directors stated that their vision is to enlighten the nation's youth. Therefore, they came to UMM to contribute positively, particularly in education. “We hope this program truly enlightens and paves the way for success for young people,” he expressed.

UMM Rector Prof. Nazaruddin Malik, M.Si., echoed similar sentiments, highlighting that this collaborative event involving UMM, Gramedia, and Bank Danamon was very insightful. There were many new things that students may not have known.
“I am very pleased to see events focused on career development, including the importance of writing. My role is to encourage and support the younger generation, especially at UMM, to keep their minds open. Additionally, I support efforts to improve youth literacy levels,” he affirmed. (wil/fajr)
