Nowadays, people compete tightly in work. This requires students to be able to compete and have skills that are not owned by other people. Realizing this phenomena, Social Economic Development Study Program (ESP) Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) held a seminar entitled “Training of Work” on Saturday (29/7) at UMM Engineering Hall and were attended by students of ESP class 2014 who will graduate this year.
To gain success, students must have strong will to strive for work. After getting a job, there are some things that need to prepare in order to be accepted to work in a company, such as having good attitude, good GPA, and good skills.
Setyasmono, a Project Manager of Garuda Indonesia which is the most elite airlines in Indonesia, explained how to prepare ourselves to enter a real work and what things that need to be learnt so a company is interested to hire. He said, “There are some things that are usually ignored by the applicants, for instance, the way to walk, the way to sit, tones during interview, and the way to dress. In fact, those things are important points that are considered by a company to recruit an employee”.
Setyasmono who has experienced recruiting employees from several countries such as Korea, Japan, China, Singapore, and other Asian Countries explained that during the interview, an applicant should prepare a good CV, show his skill instead of his flaws, be high motivated, be creative, and be passionate”. Furthermore, Setyasmono said, “GPA is not everything, but it is still important. But the most important is self-confidence”.
Moreover, there are achievement components defined by a company or an industry, such as communication skill, honesty/integrity, cooperation skill, interpersonal skill, adaptable, good attitude, detail-oriented, analytical skill, computer skill, organization skill, leadership, confidence, friendly, polite, wise, good GPA, humorous, and entrepreneurial skill.
