Celebrating Garbage Day, which fell last February, can be expressed differently. One of them is campaigning for cleanliness and garbage collection. The Student Executive Board (BEM) of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) did the same thing by putting up various signs and picking up trash on Teluk Asmara Beach at the end of last February. With the slogan "The Role of Community Collaboration in Maintaining Ecology for Realizing a Waste-Free Indonesia," BEM UMM invites visitors to maintain cleanliness and use waste to be helpful.

The chief executive, Faridatuz Zakiyah, said that before taking part in the garbage collection schedule, BEM UMM had held a live stream that invited the environmental community of Ekanto and Joko Roro's environmental ambassador, Malang Regency. "So we also provide understanding and understanding to young people the importance of protecting the environment and utilizing waste," she added.

At Teluk Asmara beach, her party collaborated with the management to provide new trash bins with several garbage spaces. Interestingly, the visitors who saw the garbage collection schedule also revitalized it. This plan aims to raise awareness among Indonesian people, especially young people, to have the will to take part in protecting the environment. It also explains who can also turn waste into high-value goods.

"Some of the waste that we usually throw away can be reused, which can use organic waste to fertilize the soil and help plant growth. Meanwhile, what can also use inorganic waste such as plastic for craft materials so that can sell it to the community again," said the student from Ngajum, Malang.

There are more than 20 trash bins and dozens of writing boards which BEM UMM also provides on Teluk Asmara beach. Farida, her nickname, hopes that visitors will no longer have trouble when they want to produce something with more trash cans. That way, the scattered garbage is also reduced so that the beauty of the beach can be seen better.

"Alhamdulillah, the management and visitors appreciate the activities we are doing. They also seem interested in campaigning for the importance of protecting the environment, especially young ones. If not the younger generation who do, who else? Later, we will also continue this series by educating the public regarding how to use waste into an attractive product," she concluded. (apg/wil)
