August is closely associated with Independence Day and its various celebrations. This was also evident in the Dinoyo Ceramic Tourism Village in Malang. Supported by a team of students from Muhammadiyah Malang University (UMM), they organized a ceramic festival and a ceramic painting competition in mid-August. The ceramic exhibition will even continue until the end of 2024. Hundreds of participants and visitors joined in to enliven the event.
Birrina Fara Adyba, as the leader, along with Zafira Auzia Najwa, Elma Bilqis Zahrani, Cindy Aurora Dwiyuniar, and Inggrid Mahkota Defrilia, assisted in the event. They are part of UMM's Community Service Program by Students (PMM) and observed that the public has limited knowledge about ceramics.
"We decided to take part in promoting the event through digital media, documentation, as well as preparation and execution of the activities. This is also a way for our PMM to assist the surrounding community," Birrina added.
Meanwhile, the support and assistance from UMM students were appreciated. According to Syamsul Arifin, the Chairman of the Tourism Awareness Group of Dinoyo Ceramic Village, the PMM students have spread benefits across various aspects. The purpose of organizing the exhibition is to increase awareness and interest among the residents of Dinoyo.
The festival showcased a variety of ceramic works produced by the Dinoyo Ceramic Village. These include products such as vases, painting tool containers, ashtrays, bells, aromatherapy containers, plates, and more. These ceramic products are also sold at affordable prices, ranging from IDR 12,000 to hundreds of thousands of rupiah. Additionally, the exhibition featured special training on ceramic painting. For just IDR 45,000, participants could get one ceramic piece and painting tools, which they could take home afterward.
Another interesting aspect is the ceramic painting competition, which was participated in by children from kindergarten, elementary, and middle schools. The participants received certificates, tools and materials for painting, aprons, and more. "We hope that this event will serve as a platform and space for the community to learn about ceramics. Additionally, it aims to create a new generation eager to learn more about ceramics," he said.

On the other hand, one of the visitors, Adinda Fitri, commented that the festival was not only entertaining but also served as an educational medium for the community. "Alhamdulillah, I could participate and learn more about ceramics. I hope this event can be held annually. That way, the excitement about ceramics can also be felt by the community," she said.
