Halal tourism become a new trend in the tourism industry. Developed countries such as Japan, South Korea and Taiwan have even prepared halal tourism models even though they are not Muslim-majority countries. It is a preparation to welcome foreign tourists from Muslim-majority countries, such as Malaysia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia including Indonesia.

This reality inspired a lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Sholahuddin Al-Fatih to research and create a sustainable halal tourism model. During his research, he also collaborated with two lecturers from other institutions, They are Abdul Kadir Jaelani (UNS) and Ahmad Siboy (Unisma). “Halal tourism is not about the religion, But on the aspects of hospitality, friendliness, the quality of facilities, and infrastructure that are well standardized," Fatih explained.

According to him, most people have misunderstood the concept of halal tourism and often associate it with religious issues. The sustainable halal tourism management model offered by Fatih and his colleagues is based on legal guarantees and their implementation.

"So far, this aspect is only regulated by tourism in law, as well as the Fatwa DSN of the Indonesian Ulema Council. But no legislation product concretely regulates halal tourism itself. Even though this is very important and strategic," said the law faculty lecturer.
