There are several differences of opinion among scholars regarding the rule of performing Qurbani. Some scholars said that Qurbani is mandatory. However, some scholars say that Qurbani is sunnah. The Head of the Islamic Family Law Study Program, Muhammad Arif Zuhri, Lc., M.HI., gave his explanation. If we refer to the opinion of the Central Board of Tarjih and Tajdid of Muhammadiyah, the law will be more like sunnah muakkad. This means that it is a sunnah which is highly recommended to be done.

"However, I don't think there is any need to dispute these differences of opinion. For those who think it is mandatory, feel free to follow it, and for those who think it is sunnah, please follow it," he explained.
When someone has the capabilities, then every year, he has the sharia or sunnah to do the Qurbani. Therefore, this worship is not applicable once in a lifetime.
Arif, his nickname, gives some recommendations for those who want to perform Qurbani. First, The owner of the Qurbani animal is also advised to witness the slaughtering process. The second is to clip nails or cut hair once the animal slaughtering process ends.
"It is not mandatory to be done. However it will be better if it can be done," said Arif
Furthermore, Arid said that not all animals could be a Qurbani animals. The animals must be categorized as livestock animals. The animals categorized as livestock are camel, cow, lamb, goats, and sheep.
As for health, it refers to not being sick. The animal must be fat and have meat. Regarding age, camels must be at least five years old, cows at least two years old, and goats at least one year old.
"If you have looked everywhere and cannot find animals that meet the minimum age, then you can use jadza'ah animals, which are goats or sheep that are six months to one year old," said Arif.
The Qurbani is performed during Eid al-Adha from 10 Zulhijjah to 13 Zulhijjah before sunset. There is no requirement for the place to perform the Qurbani. It's just better if it's done in a place of prayer or worship, such as in a mosque or field. (put/dev/wil)
