Once again, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) has been chosen to host an international event. Most recently, the White Campus has been selected as the venue for the ASEAN University Games in Pencak Silat, scheduled from July 2-6, 2024. Hundreds of Pencak Silat athletes from ten different ASEAN countries will compete to be the best in this event.
UMM's readiness and its experience in organizing international events are the reasons behind its selection as the venue for Pencak Silat. From the Dome, which can serve as the competition venue, to three excellent hotels owned by UMM, participants will find convenience and comfort as accommodation and competition venues are in close proximity. Additionally, the presence of UMM Hospital adds further value by ensuring swift medical attention in case of injuries or accidents.

This sentiment was agreed by Brunei Darussalam coach Muhammad Khairul Bahri, who expressed satisfaction with the comfortable processes. He noted that staying at UMM-owned hotels facilitates the mobility of athletes, while Malang's cool climate helps keep his team relaxed and focused.
"The quality of the organization is quite good and approaches events like the ASEAN Games. It is hoped that AUG will inspire our young athletes to continue honing their skills and achieving better futures," he explained.
Concerning health and safety, UMM has assembled a top-notch medical team. While the standard preparation involves four teams, White Campus has increased this to ten teams, including two internationally certified doctors. Advanced medical equipment and transportation ambulances have also been provided to preemptively address any unforeseen incidents.

The ASEAN University Games in Pencak Silat were officially opened by UMM Rector Prof. Dr. Nazaruddin Malik, M.Si. He emphasized that this competition embodies the saying 'mens sana in corpore sano', a healthy mind in a healthy body. Furthermore, he highlighted the long history and culture of Pencak Silat, reflected in the strength, discipline, and talent of the athletes.
"In addition to its graceful movements, Pencak Silat serves multiple purposes. First and foremost, it teaches self-defense for security purposes. Additionally, it serves as a platform for achieving excellence and fostering a supportive competitive spirit," he stated.
"Welcome and best wishes for a successful competition. Let's respect each other, uphold sportsmanship, and strive to deliver our best for our nations," he concluded. (wil/fajr)
