Creating professional teachers who are committed to educating the country's children is not an easy matter. However, all efforts are made for the progress of the nation. This includes the efforts of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) Teacher Professional Education Study Program (PPG) which always innovates so that it can produce educators with noble and professional hearts. It began with an academic orientation for PPG pre-service students on December 9 at the Grand Mercure, Malang.
Delivered by the Dean of the UMM Teaching and Education Faculty (FKIP), Dr. Trisakti Handayani, MM., the innovations made by PPG UMM were different for each generation. Several years ago, his party encouraged students to develop virtual reality-based learning. There is also the compilation of anthology books with ISBNs about teaching experiences in various regions by teachers.
"We always try to encourage students to achieve their potential, especially in the field of education. We also continue to work on improving their understanding of digital learning. We even invited a number of experts to explain how to develop a digital-based education strategy," he stressed.
Trisakti said that these innovations produced good results. In 2022, the percentage of passing UMM students in the Teacher Profession Program Student Competency Test (UKMPPG) is considered high. For pre-service PPG, the pass rate reaches 100%, while in-service PPG Kemdikbudristek (daljab) reaches more than 83%. Finally, the pass rate for PPG in the Ministry of Religion is more than 92%.
These innovations are also in accordance with UMM's vision which aims to produce young people with future skills. UMM Chancellor Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd. emphasizes that the teacher is not only a teacher but also an educator. If the teacher is in charge of transferring knowledge, it is different from educators who transfer grades.
"Education is essential to shape one's personality. So you must be able to become a reliable educator. Moreover, the role of the teacher in the dynamics of society is now increasingly eroded," he explained.
Fauzan also reminded us that teachers must be able to create an ideal class. Instead of making the atmosphere tense and boring. According to him, education now cannot be done conventionally. So, future digital skills must also be mastered by teachers. Even by building a honed and nurturing and fun communication pattern.
Many participants appreciated the quality of PPG UMM. One of them is Rahmawati Nisa. The woman from Trenggalek thinks that the White Campus always accompanies PPG students well. So that he feels cared for and shown how to be a professional educator.
“Not everyone has the opportunity to participate in PPG, so I will always make good use of it. This is a golden opportunity as a way to educate the nation's children and advance Indonesia," concluded Nisa. (cdr/wil)
