Citayam Fashion Week has become a hot topic of discussion among social media users lately. The phenomenon of teenagers wearing quirky clothes who crowded the Dukuh Atas area, Sudirman, Central Jakarta, even attracted the interest of international media such as Tokyo Fashion. Seeing this, a Sociology Lecturer at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Luluk Dwi Kumalasari, S.Sos, . M.Si explained.
Luluk said that the popularity reaped many pros and cons. Some people appreciate the creative way teenagers express themselves through fashion. Others considered that the actions of these teenagers disturbed and made the Sudirman area slum. According to him, Citayam Fashion Week is a natural phenomenon. This is based on human instincts as social beings to form groups according to specific characteristics and goals.
"This community was formed by several young people who live in the Sudirman, Citayam, Bojong Gede, and Depok areas. As a buffer zone for the capital city, these young people have more creativity in the field of fashion. I see that the existence of Citayam Fashion Week is a means for young people to express themselves honestly through fashion," said the Head of the Sociology Study Program.

In addition to the development of fashion trends, Luluk, as he is familiarly called, explained that the development of social media has also influenced the existence of this trend, especially TikTok. The teenagers at Citayam Fashion Week use social media to become famous and earn money. This has also spawned many Instagram celebrities and TikTok celebrities such as Jeje, Bonge, Kurma, Roy, and others.
"The massive presence of social media influences the way teenagers are creative, and Citayam Fashion Week is a new platform for them. In addition, the emergence of this community has also become a contemporary discourse that fashion, which has been synonymous with the upper class, can also be carried out by the lower middle class, "said Luluk.
Furthermore, Luluk describes several other positive impacts of the emergence of this trend, namely that teenagers become more aware of social life. The creativity of teenagers as content creators on social media is also increasing. In addition, the existence of these teenagers also increases the income of Kali Lima traders (PKL) around Sudirman.

"In addition to the positive impact, of course, this also causes some negative impacts such as the culture of littering and the way of dressing that is considered too open," said the lecturer, who was born in Jombang.
Luluk explained that to reduce negative impacts, cooperation from various parties is needed, especially the government. Things that they can do are by educating, directing, and assisting the youth so that this community can continue but with minimal adverse effects.
"Overall, I see this trend as a positive thing. I hope Citayam Fashion Week can become a positively recognized community not only in Indonesia but also internationally. I also hope that this community can show a new fashion culture that has its character," she concluded. (apg/Shi/Wil)
