Many opportunities can be sought, one of them being through social media, which provides many benefits today if appropriately used. It was mentioned by David Bahtiyar Rizal, an alumnus of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). For more than 11 years, he worked in journalism until he became a news anchor. Now, he is also an influencer. David, his nickname, shared his stories and attractive tips in UMMTalks at the end of last October.

During his studies, he already dreamed of becoming a journalist and presenter at a TV station. Therefore, he chose the Communication Science Study Program focusing on journalism to add insight into journalism. " Since the beginning, I wanted to be a journalist, so I have taken the grand design of my dream by taking this focus," he said.

In the first year of college, he was a go-home type of student. Then, in the second year, he chose to take time off for some reason. However, he got up in his third year and tried to engage in journalism by joining an internship at UMM Protocols and Public Relations Bureau.

The well-known presenter said that his journey to becoming a journalist took work. During her final year of college, around 2012, he did her final project (thesis) by participating in the SCTV Goes to Campus audition at a certain campus in Surabaya. From that event, he won and was invited to come directly to SCTV Jakarta.

"Honestly, I had to finish my thesis before October. I had to be in Jakarta by October," he added.

During his time as a journalist, he got a lot of stories of the joys and sorrows that coloured his life. Including when reporting on national and international natural disasters. He feels proud that his profession can provide helpful information to the public.

Furthermore, David also tried his luck by entering the world of content creators. He joined the world of content in 2018 while still working as a journalist. He creates life content or works behind the scenes as a news presenter. Especially during the Covid-19 pandemic, there was a prohibition on outdoor activities. He took advantage of it to pursue a new field.

According to him, social media must and can be utilized optimally rather than uselessly. Moreover, most people, including the youth nowadays, already have a variety of social media.

"Gen Z youths can get various things through the internet and social media. Starting from money to relationships that can be used when they enter the workforce. Thus, use social media with ethics. Social media is like a double-edged knife. Many cases are due to lack of ethics," he ended. (Tri/Wil/Put)
