Eight Universities of UK Invites UMM Students to Study in the UK

UNIVERSITY of  Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) keep continuing to increase international recognition in  white campus. One of them through international education fair. In cooperation with UMM, eight universities located in the United Kingdom (UK) held educational exhibition for master and doctoral program at UMM Auditorium, Monday (6/3).

The nine universitiesnamelythe University of Bradford, University of Westminster, University of Wales, University of East London (UEL), University College Dublin, Cardiff University, Durham University, Harper Adams University, and Swansea University. Not only eight universities, there was also a representative of Erasmus +  providing  information concern about scholarships from the European Union.

Opened at 12:30 pm, hundreds of visitors seemed enthusiastic came toeach booth of universities. Various questions were asked, including the type of course, the number of semester credit, length of study, type of scholarship, the cost of living, thedaily need even work of part-time can be acted while studying.

Interestingly, not only educational exhibition, this activity also accompanied by simulation of International English Language Testing System (IELTS). One campus exhibitors, namely UEL also held a seminar on theme Living as a Muslim in the UK. Number of Visitors crowded the seminar to know the curiosity of muslim’s life in the United Kingdom.

Abdul Kareem Kelvin Jones as one of the UEL speaker said that Muslim citizenreaches 1/20 of the UK’s population. Islam was the second religion in the UK. 40 percent of the population was living in London. "Therefore, students or muslim citizen are very safe to live in the UK," Kelvin said.

Students, Kelvin continued, could joining the Association of Indonesian Muslim Students in the UK or following the discussion forums of Muslim students. Not only that, the students were also free to dress based on their faith.

Meanwhile, Assistant Rector of Foreign Cooperation Soeparto stated that the visitof the UK campuses were also discussing about partnership’s plan with UMM. As a result, by the next July, several campuses in the UK and UMM will conduct the signing of a memorandum of understanding at UMM. Among the cooperation, there will be incoming program like summber costs and the summer internship program at UMM from fresh graduates of magister university program in the UK.

"The applicant of British postgraduate education in Indonesia is low. Therefore, through this educational exhibition we hope UMM students get the enlightenment to continue their studies in the UK, " Soeparto said. (Naz)
