University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) students scored another achievement. This time, a proud achievement came from the International Relations Study Program student, Dhida Wahyu Nusantara, who managed to bring home a silver medal. He recorded this achievement in the 75-kilogram Greco-style wrestling at the East Java Provincial Sports Week (Porprov) 2022.
The competition took place last June 26-29. According to Dhida, his nickname, he has been doing long preparations for a long time. To be precise, nine months ago, from November 2021 to June 2022. He who represented Malang said he carried out routine exercises centered at the basecamp in the Pakisaji area.
"Almost every day, I train with professional staff and provincial athletes. Starting from six in the afternoon until ten at night," he said.
According to him, yesterday's race was very adrenaline-pumping. That's because sometime before competing, he was required to take an exam at the UMM campus, then immediately went to Lumajang to compete. Even so, he is very grateful because there is a lot of support from the campus, lecturers, and friends who always support his activities.
"Alhamdulillah, thanks to the help of many parties, I was able to balance college activities with this championship," added Dhida.
Regarding the competition process, he said that the competition was very tight. Moreover, he had to compete with his friends who represented his area several times. It was pretty tricky because each of them had pocketed their weaknesses.
He shared that his interest in wrestling began to grow when he was in the fourth grade of elementary school. Incidentally, he often visits the athletes' training base camp. From there, he finally joined in and practiced with all his might. He finally managed to get his first degree in the third grade of junior high school. Precisely at the Regional Student Sports Week (POPDA). Then it continued in the preporprov, kejurda to regional kejurda competitions. He successfully won an international event at the Thailand Open in 2018.
Dhida is grateful that she is in an environment that supports her passion. Not only his parents but also friends, athletes from one base camp, and UMM, who always provide input and motivation. Although he loves wrestling, he is committed to completing his studies well.
Finally, he advised young people his age to be good at looking for opportunities and be able to control themselves. "Young people must be smart in finding opportunities, good at controlling themselves and knowing themselves so that later they can explore their potential and achieve," he said. (cdr/ros/wil)
