Various yet unexpected changes are the challenges of the Indonesian education system. One is the acceleration of information digitalization, as asserted by the Executive Director of APCE UNESCO C2C, Prof. Dr. Ignasius D. A. Sutapa, M. Sc in a national seminar held by the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang. More than 1500 participants attended the agenda conducted on January 26, 2023.

Ignasius highlighted that students tend to get information faster than teachers in this era. However, technology is not terrible. Education actors can synergize and utilize it to optimize their teaching and learning.

“The problem is the reliability in digitalization has not been achieved yet by current educators. The example is the way of sending and receiving information through electronic devices. Many educators are less professional in utilizing technology,” expressed the Executive Director.

He thinks that technology mastery is a jointly strategic and necessary thing. Education digitalization can also be suitable for adapting to an effective and productive environment in elementary, junior, and senior high schools and universities. Teachers and lecturers can integrate their teaching methods into digital transformation so that the education system can align with the developing era.

“Teachers must be able to follow the changing era and educate the young generation based on the times. Then, the next professional generation who has skills in-line with the era and competes well will exist. Digital transformation can possibly make Indonesia more advanced, independent, sovereign, and cultural by upholding the values of Pancasila,” asserted Ignasius.

The Directorate of Teacher Professional Education, Dr. Romi Iswanti, delivered the in-line idea. He advised all teachers always to struggle and not give up on improving the nation’s intelligence. They must also be able to adapt to the present era so their students can acquire skills that are appropriate for the time.

“Educators must be open to technological development and also capability and literacy improvement to face the challenges of the disruption era,” emphasized Romi.

On the other hand, Vice Rector I of UMM, Prof. Dr. Syamsul Arifin, M. Si. expects this seminar to be able to implement a digital transformation well, so educators can equip themselves with the needed skills to foster the children of the nation.

“Knowledge can be achieved without six things: intelligence, high spirit, strong desire, curiosity, respecting teachers, and learning it for a long time. If all are done diligently, then the knowledge can be transferred to the society,” ended the Vice Rector I. (imh/ris/wil)
