Discussion of UMM and AUN-QA to Study about Education Standards in the ASEAN Region

University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), together with ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA), held a sharing session on Thursday (2/6). The discussion discussed the standardization of education in the ASEAN region.

In his speech, the Rector of UMM, Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., said that he was proud of the hard work carried out by the UMM academic community in improving the quality and facilities for internationalization. He considered it an essential step to becoming an internationally recognized university, mainly in competitiveness and quality.

That way, UMM can attract national and international students to study at UMM, especially if it is equipped with excellent service and the best educational facilities that can be provided. "UMM has collaborated with AUN-QA to gain international recognition through positive evaluations and constructive feedback. This session is an opportunity not to be missed to learn more about higher education trends and policies," said Fauzan.

Five UMM Departments have received AUN-QA recognition—starting from the Psychology, Management, Animal Husbandry, Biology Education, and Communication Studies Departments. According to him, these Departments experienced a significant increase in the quality of academic, non-academic, and human resources due to the quality assessment from AUN-QA.

The arrival of AUN-QA is a collaboration that has existed since 2016. In contrast, this visit is the first agenda of AUN-QA after the pandemic. Head of AUN-QA Ing-orn Jeerararuensak thanked UMM for the warm welcome. Mainly discussions related to higher education assessment programs or assessments. Likewise, with the inputs submitted by the lecturers to them.

On that occasion, Ing also informed that there are several programs that UMM White Campus can participate in next year. These include the AUN-QA Training Course for Accomplishing Program Assessment and the Writing Self-Assessment Report (SAR) program for Successful AUN-QA Program Assessment (Version 4.0). "There will also be an international conference next year held on site in Bangkok. The agenda will later aim to promote student mobility between the ASEAN region and the European Union," he added.

Meanwhile, the Head of the UMM Accreditation and Rating Agency, Dr. Surya Anoraga, S.H., M. Hum. conveyed that this sharing session was to receive suggestions and recommendations from AUN-QA. Especially for the five study programs that have received recognition for having quality by international standards.

"The Ministry of Education and Culture has not accepted five study programs that have been verified from AUN-QA unfortunately as accreditation. Therefore, we ask AUN-QA to make it a domestic accreditation," he said.

This important moment was welcomed by UMM, which immediately achieved international accreditation this year. The visit is an initiative from AUN-QA, and the University is expected to level up its accreditation.

"The next target for UMM is to achieve accreditation that is internationally recognized. It also strives for accreditation and certification to be recognized domestically by Dikti," he concluded. (cdr/*/wil)
