Lately, many cases have emerged regarding pinjaman online (pinjol) (trans: online lending) customers who are in debt. Aep Saepuddin, S.E, MESy., a lecturer in the D3 Banking study program at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), said many reasons encourage them to try pinjol. Starting from sudden needs, addiction and even hedonism.
Aep said from an economic point of view, borrowing and lending are valid if they meet the conditions that have been determined. When someone applies for a loan to a bank, at the initial stage, the bank will usually conduct a 5C analysis (character, capacity, capital, collateral and condition) to the customer. If it is determined that the customer does not meet these criteria, the bank has the right to reject the loan application.

Online loans are different from offline loans. The system does not undergo a long 5C analysis, so it only requires a short time. The money is immediately disbursed and goes to the borrower's account. This is why many people, especially the youth, like online loans.
"Most cases of pinjol nowadays are done by the youth; the reasons are various, but the point is they can't control their finances," said the man familiarly called Aep.
He says many youths today need help adjusting financial income and expenses. A financial mindset is very important for life. The size of the income earned is only nominal—the rest are obliged to manage the money.
Furthermore, Aep said that a person can be in a situation of urgency and must inevitably take out a loan. In this situation, they must be vigilant and careful. Ensure the financial services authority guarantees the institution or application and commits to repaying the debt seriously.

"Do not let us use loans for hedonism. Moreover, we should look for unlicensed institutions that are not certified by the OJK because the impact that will be felt is very dangerous. In some cases, there are even cases of debtors who are stressed and end their lives because they are terrorized by illegal moneylenders who collect debts rudely," he said.
He also advised people who take online loans to remain cautious. It is fine as long as you know and understand the consequences that must be borne. As well as the responsibility to repay the debt on time.
"Amid modernization like nowadays, online loans can be an alternative as long as we know that OJK protects our application. The use of the money must also be ensured for important and urgent needs," he concluded. (*rin/wil/put)
