General and regional elections will be held in 2024. This is one form of political participation in society. Political participation itself has many forms. One of them is voting or polling to elect people's representatives. This was explained by Ach. Apriyanto Romadhan, S.Ip., M.Si. as a Lecturer in Government Science at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM).

According to him, in choosing people's representatives, voters go through three stages. First, access sources of information related to the prospective people's representatives. This can be done by looking at the work programme and track record. Second, the process where voters participate in voting.

"Third, after where voters oversee the elected candidates and see whether they succeed in the legislative structure. Then see if they carry out the programs that have been promised when campaigning," he continued.

Achmad also emphasized that good voters are those who are oriented toward the work programs and track records of the candidates. Therefore, there is a need for political education provided by parties supporting candidates and other parties. This is done not only before the election but also periodically and continuously. So that it can increase the stock of knowledge for voters related to elections and politics.

In line with this, political education will increase voter confidence in the capacity of candidates. In addition to political education, the role of social media in campaigning for political news is also important. Both the achievements and personalities of the candidates being promoted.

In addition, social media can in fact also be a black campaign in providing false news about certain candidates. This needs to be a special concern for educational institutions and community institutions that have a concern for political education. With the increase in political education from stakeholders, the intellectual capital of beginner voters will also increase.

"The function of this education is to increase literacy skills, which will certainly increase the filtering of information in choosing candidates or parties to be elected," he explained.

The candidate's track record can be seen from the candidate's political party membership and background through the access provided by the KPU and from various media. So that voters can compare the information obtained, and filter information as densely as possible and selectively so as not to be easily carried away by black campaigns.

"The success of an election is a process of cooperation between various interests, be it the government, private institutions, the community, or other organizations. It is a joint task to educate novice voters by opening political classes," he concluded.(cdr/nov/wil)
