In front of thousands of graduates of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) on May 16th, 2024, Egyptian Ambassador to Indonesia, Yasser Hassan Farag Eishemy, conveyed an important message. He emphasized that knowledge is a very meaningful legacy. Even the prophet never left dinars or dirhams but left a beneficial legacy of knowledge. It is clear from this that knowledge is very important. It is very harmonious with the white campus graduates who have just graduated and gained knowledge during the lectures at the white campus.

“Knowledge can also be a shield, fortifying us from deviation and becoming one of the keys to the path to heaven. Allah facilitates the path to heaven for those who are willing to study,” he said.

Furthermore, he explained that wastiyyah, or moderation, is also one of the things that must be embraced in life. Moderation means staying in the middle ground and not being extreme in responding to something. It is also a guide to keep giving the best attitude, especially in society, to avoid being rash in making all decisions.

“Nowadays, we are in the urgent situation of being able to reframe the products of liberal moderation. There are many deviations as a result of misunderstanding the concept of moderation. It is our duty to return the view of moderation to Islamic values,” he said.

On the other hand, the UMM Rector gave tips for white campus graduates to avoid becoming victims of the success trap. Prof. Dr. Nazaruddin Malik, SE, M.Si., emphasized that there are many people who are trapped in that. According to him, it is due to the feeling of not being enough and not continuing to develop themselves.

“The challenges in society are very competitive, there are many algorithmic problems, and one of them is the success trap. I need to encourage the graduates to continue to improve their skills, creativity, and responsiveness to answer challenges for themselves and also for the community,” he said.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, M.A.P., as the Head of the UMM Daily Governing Board, said that this white campus can be described as a secondary mother for students. It is due to the fact that UMM has become a place of trust for the parents of the graduates and a place to gain knowledge. The white campus also provides the best things for raising, caring for, and providing provisions to face the future.

“This campus has become a second home for you. You are raised, educated, and given the best place. Do not hesitate to return to UMM for studies, cooperation, or anything else. You will always become part of UMM, and you will also remain a proud student of UMM,” he said. (faq/wil/put)
