The world faces various significant challenges ranging from violence issues to the environment to health problems from year to year. To face these challenges, collaboration between countries is needed. That was the opening remark of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) graduation ceremony delivered by H.E. Mrs. Askin Asan, Ambassador (Ambassador) of Turkey to Indonesia. The event was held offline at UMM Dome on Tuesday (29/3).
As he is familiarly called, Asan explains that the world faces several challenges. The first is the issue of health, especially the COVID-19 pandemic that has hit the world in recent years. This pandemic has infected 175 million people worldwide and resulted in the deaths of 3.5 million people. It is necessary to have a rapid distribution of vaccines in the community to deal with this problem.
"Therefore, it would be perfect if countries collaborated in developing vaccines to overcome the pandemic. The second challenge is the issue of violence and war that has often occurred in recent years. In 2021, eight wars were recorded around the world. The number of people evacuated has also increased over the past four years. 82.4 million people have been displaced by the end of 2020," said Asan.
Asan continued, another challenge facing the world is extreme climate change. To overcome these climate problems, several countries have turned to the latest technologies that are more environmentally friendly. Turkey and Indonesia are both currently developing electric cars. With abundant energy sources in Indonesia and technology owned by Turkey, renewable energy development will go through an increasingly rapid process.
"In facing the challenges ahead, it cannot be done alone. Therefore, there is a need for collaboration between countries. This collaboration makes a country independent and strong and can also help other countries that are in trouble. And the graduates are expected to be the next generation who can create collaborations and face the challenges of the world," said Asan ending.
In line with Asan, Rector of UMM, Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., said that the graduates have also been given leadership competencies apart from being taught academic issues. This competency helps form a problem-solving ability. For this reason, in facing the world's challenges, graduates must have a confident, challenging spirit, have strong integrity, and be devoted to both parents.
"The presence of brothers and sisters in the community is useful for solving problems. Not, on the contrary, it creates problems for the community. Therefore, do not be a mediocre person. Be a spark of pearl that can change Indonesia to a better direction in the future," he concluded. (cdr/haq/wil)
