As time progresses, many young people start to forget about politeness and ethics towards their social environment. Their manners and norms also slowly begin to fade. This phenomenon sparks many comments, one from Dr. Nurul Zuriah, M.Si., the Pancasila and Citizenship Education Lecturer at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM).

The woman known as Nurul believes that the loss of politeness and ethics in today’s generation is due to several factors: the influence of social media, lack of parental supervision, absence of ethical education, and the widespread culture of consumerism. It also includes the lack of positive examples and the fast-changing development of technology and life.

Nurul, her nickname, believes that the loss of politeness and ethics in today's children occurs due to several factors. These include the influence of social media, lack of parental supervision, absence of ethical education, and the widespread culture of consumerism. It also includes the lack of positive examples and the fast-changing development of technology and life.

“In this case, educational institutions and families play a significant role, primarily in shaping the younger generation's values, character, and morals. Collaboration between the two parties is needed to deal with this phenomenon,” said she.

As Nurul said, several strategies are applicable to implement by educational institutions. For example, they can teach ethical and social values. Schools must be able to integrate lessons on ethical values, politeness, and social skills into the curriculum. This way can be done through special lessons, seminars, or even practical experience.

"In developing character programs, schools and universities can create particular programs to foster students' personalities. It contains values of politeness, empathy, cooperation, and integrity," the Civics and Pancasila Education Lecturer added.

Discussions on contemporary ethical and moral issues can also be one of the ways to train critical thinking, especially about moral dilemmas and honing the ability to make ethical decisions. In addition, students also need to be trained in social skills, such as effective communication, conflict resolution, and cooperation. This measure aims to prepare them for real-world interactions.

From the parents' side, Nurul emphasized the need for positive examples or role models in behavior, ethics, and politeness. Parents should practice these values in their daily interactions so that children can model the proper behavior. "It is also necessary to encourage open communication with children. It allows them to discuss ethical and moral issues and ask questions," she added.

Monitoring of digital content must also be done. Children's access to inappropriate digital content with ethics and social norms must be limited. "It is important to involve various parties. Through collaboration between educational institutions and families, we can overcome the challenges of the loss of decency and ethics in today's children. Awareness and a holistic approach are essential to shape a generation that has a strong ethical character and is able to interact politely and respectfully," she concluded. (imh/fat/wil)
