To form an inclusive world, the Faculty of Psychology (Fapsi) of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) launched a center of excellence for Advisors for Individuals with Special Needs (IBK). The agenda held on October 28, 2022, also invited various schools and IBK therapy centers to sign a collaboration.
The Center of Excellence, which completed more than 40 CoEs of UMM, was officially launched by the Chancellor of UMM, Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd. Interestingly, on the agenda, there were performances from students with special needs in the form of dance and poetry reading.
The Dean of UMM FAPSI, Muhammad Salis Yuniardi, Ph.D., explained that there are three things that his party does to create an inclusive world. Especially for IBK, who should get the same rights and opportunities and adjust to needs. The first thing that Fapsi UMM strives for is a commitment to become a faculty that is open to anyone.
“Since 2007, we have been committed to inclusive education. So, we are ready to accept students with special needs. This year, two students with autism spectrum disorders and two with disabilities. For next year, we will prioritize IBK so that they can enter and be accepted into our faculty,” he added.
Then the second is to seek a good IBK supervisor. One of them is through the submission of certification to the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP) related to the approved IBK supervisor. It also affects the third thing, namely, the establishment of the IBK supervisory CoE. In this program, students and alums are not only given skills to assist IBK but also design and manage programs for IBK. Even with the ability to establish a therapy center.
One of the partners, Head of SDN 1 Junrejo Sri Winarti, considered this program a good innovation. Especially for friends who have special needs. With the CoE, there will be many skilled human resources (HR) who can help create an inclusive world. Moreover, human resources to assist IBK will survive. It will not be eroded by time and replaced by robots and technology.
Meanwhile, the Rector of UMM, Fauzan, appreciated the second CoE that UMM Fapsi successfully launched. He explained that this program was designed to bring students and alums closer to the needs of society and industry. He was especially considering that universities are responsible for preparing qualified human resources.
"Of course, I hope the Faculty of Psychology can become a driving force for other CoEs spread in each UMM study program. He concluded that many young people would be born ready to face various problems and challenges in society and the future," he concluded. (cdr/wil)
