The issue of extremism is very close to society. Even so, the people themselves do not know well about extremism, radicalism, or terrorism. it can give people a say in marking a group on extremism
Seeing this social reality, the Faculty of Law (FH) University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) held a webinar with the theme of challenging the existence of extremism in Indonesia and its regulations. The event was held Monday (15/02) through the zoom and youtube channels.
To broaden the participants' point of view, this webinar invited Professor of the Faculty of Law, Diponegoro University (UNDIP) Prof. Dr. Suteki, SH., M.Hum, UMM Vice Rector IV Dr. Sidik Sunaryo, SH., M.Si., M.hum, and Professor of the Faculty of Law, Padjadjaran University (UNPAD) Prof. Dr. Susie Dwi Harijanti, SH., LL.M., Ph.D as the speaker. In his words, Busyro shared his experiences accompanying victims from the New Order era to the present. Through this experience, Busyro saw that society tended to associate Islam with radicalism.
"So far, why are those labeled as radicals, why are they always Muslims. Only Muslims have often been made permanent defendants since the new order until now. To label someone, society, and law enforcers, they should be more careful," he said. Busyro.
In line with Busyro, Teki said that the concept of radicalism in law in law (UU) is flexible and unclear. Just because they disagree with most people, the authorities do not mean that person can be labeled an extremist, radicalism or terrorist.
“People often say that I am radicalized or extremist, just because my view is different from that of a group of people. Even so, I give a scientific research view and explain that this view is wrong. And when trying to portray radicalism following the law, it is sometimes very flexible".
