The University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) continues to add to its professors. This time, the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FTTE) inaugurated Prof. Dr. Joko Widodo, M.Si. and Prof. Dr. Mohammad Syaifuddin, M.M., on December 27th. Those two professors have special discussions related to education based on their fields.

However, Prof. Dr. Joko Widodo, M.Si discussed appreciating literature and its implementation in life. He emphasized that improving the quality of appreciation toward literature will significantly impact literacy achievement and its performance in life. The accuracy of appreciation will lead to the accomplishment of reading beyond the line; it can save thousands of people from negative actions, reprehensible violations of regulations, and ruination of the future and even life.

"Readers are encouraged to be able to understand the messages delivered by the author through their work. Therefore, it can inspire the readers and motivate them to real actions in the system that can prevent people from falling into reprehensible actions. It is a preventive function," he said.

According to him, if people with authority or policymakers implement the appreciation of literature, it can prevent violations that cause harm to themselves and society. Likewise, it can improve the moral aspect of society and serve as a tool to educate. In terms of message and content, almost all literary works are ethical tools.

"Thus, understanding literary works, in turn, is an understanding of advice and regulations, prohibitions and recommendations, truths that must be emulated, types of crimes that must be rejected, and so on," said Joko.

On the other hand, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Syaifuddin, M.M. researched '21st Century Skills: The Challenge of Educating Classroom Assessments'. The development of the 21st century has brought significant changes and challenges to society. To navigate positive changes, individuals must acquire and develop a set of skills known as 21st-century skills.

"These skills cover many fields, including learning and innovation, information and technology, and life and career skills. 21st-century skills are essential for individuals to thrive in today's world," he explained.

In learning and innovation, individuals need creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, and the ability to learn as they learn. They must think outside the box, generate innovative ideas and adapt to new situations. Regarding information and technology skills, individuals need to be skilled in using technology and media and analyze and evaluate information effectively.

Finally, he said that assessment for life is an endeavour to achieve spiritual intelligence. It has an important role in developing the spiritual dimension of students. "One of the other important things about assessments that educate is how assessments lead humans to the true purpose of life. The real purpose of human life is to return to Allah with husnul khotimah," he concluded. (*faq/wil/put)
