FPP Assess the Role of Indonesia as Global Maritime Fulcrum

If Indonesia could utilize its marine since time a long ago, the development no need to rely on foreign debts. Indonesia should be able to make marine as backbone of national income to be called as maritime nation.

It was conveyed by the founder of Chandra Motik Maritime Center, Dr. Chandra Motik Yusuf, S.H.M.sc in front of 125 students of Agriculture and Husbandry Faculty (FPP) 2016 University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) at UMM Dome Basement, Friday (14/10). The Guest Lecture was titled “Maritime as Qibla of Indonesian National Development”

Chandra revealed, a  long time ago Ir. Djuanda has realized that  indonesian future depend on marine. “The core of Djuanda Declaration (1957) to realize insight archipelago, marine as unifier not as separator. The connectivity between islands and spreading of development and  welfare must be achieved,” Chandra who has got the 2015 award from ministry of transportation as women on maritime 2015, Said.

Chandra Said,  Djuanda Declaration has mandated this nation to utilize marine as asset of Indonesian development which was ratified by United Nations (PBB) on United Nations Convention the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) 1982.

Chandra Added, a long time a ago,  Indonesia has been known as the axis of world. This strategic position had been utilized by Sriwijaya Kingdom, Majapahit and so on within on trading or expanding the empire areas.  “Due to the strategic location many countries wanted to take control over Indonesia. which was Netherland  became the longest country that colonized over indonesia ,” he explained.

According to him, to utilize indonesian strategic position as the axis of world needed marine infrastructure that could to implement Indonesia as maritime country. “Through comprehensive maritime infrastructure,  integral and holistic and then the conectivity between islands  could be realized. After conectivity between islands achieved, further, connectivity between countries, where indonesia as the center of International shipping industry,” he explained.

However, in reaching to be made as the axile of world maritime, Indonesia stiil need a lot of problems to be solved over infrastructure and maritime conectivity . He admitted, infrastructure condition and maritime conectivity today still far from adequate to exploit marine potential toward maritime country.

“Shipping infrastructure not adequate,  waiting time and dwelling time too long. moreover , dwelling time system was too weak, especially for dangerous load. Shipping infrastructure which was not adequate in small islands. Also, legal instrumen which has no gives secure for shipping industry and sovereignty of country,” He said (can/han)
