"You are a leader for thirty-two thousand students of UMM. You present here, because you are believed by UMM students to lead them. The more important is you are the leader of a student at the college which has had a high reputation. "
This was conveyed by the Rector of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Fauzan, in his speech at the opening of the Student Leadership and Management Training (LKMM) Intra Organization of the academic year 2016/2017 at UMM Auditorium, Friday (7/10).
"It's like you get on a plane, you have entered in business class. If you ride the bus, the bus was already the executive class. This means that, you also have to adjust. Because UMM has an outstanding reputation, both in East Java, national and even international, we hope that you as a student leader must have the confidence and able to adapt to the reputation of this UMM, "said Fauzan.
Fauzan asserted, it should not exist between student functionaries who feel represents themselves from small colleges. However, functionaries’ intra UMM institutions should represent as a leaders of college student from established and reputable. "You already have the power of bargaining and able to communicate with anyone. In the national arena, you are already aligned with functionaries in the University of Indonesia, Gadjah Mada University and other famous universities, "said Fauzan.
In addition, as a student leader, functionaries’ intra institutions should serve as a motivator also inspiratory. So according to Fauzan, LKMM was supposed to be a strategic agenda in order to develop new ideas. "In the future, the training agenda will be developed towards competitive. Since we can no longer think locally or even nationally, we must have a global insight, "he explained.
He hoped that the term as functionaries’ intra agency that only one year should be used as best as possible. One of them was to establish communication with the institution and students from any university. Meanwhile, Chairman of the Badan Pembina Harian,Prof.Drs.H.A.Malik Fajar, M.Sc., stated that UMM as educational institutions had an important role for preparing 3 generations of future leaders which spawned firm generations, prepared professionals in various fields who would be able to do the tasks of nation, as well as built Indonesian civilizations.
"You are the one who will continue the generation of the future leadership role in order to strengthen the nation. Both in the context of life regionally, nationally and globally, "he concluded.
