A STUDENT at the Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES), University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) has a method to reducean anxiety and reduce people's fear in going to the hospital. The idea brought by Sania Umazatul Amsa, a 5th semester student of the Nursing Study Program, won the national nursing essay competition by winning first place in the PIMANAS event held by the Semarang Health Polytechnic Nursing Study Program in early November 2020.
The idea, which was given the name Telemedicine-based Electronic Home Call, departed from their concern about the anxiety and fear of the community in going to the hospital. That anxiety and fear is due to the outbreak of Covid-19. If this is allowed, the death rate can increase because someone, for example, heart disease is treated late, then the patient can not be helped because it is not handled by health workers.
In addition, the hospital has actually implemented the appropriate health protocols as well as Covid-19 isolation patients in general. And, appeal after appeal is also made by the Government so that people are not afraid to go to the hospital. However, the fact that up to seven months of the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia, people still do not want to go to the hospital. This is where the Telemedicine-based Electronic Home Calls are implemented.

"Telemedicine-based Electronic House Call is a home visit health service method that uses technology and the internet to maintain health
conditions and improve the quality of life of patients. This method is suitable for use during a pandemic. Patients who have to carry out routine controls to the hospital every month but are afraid of being exposed to the virus do not require patients to come to the hospital, ”she explained, contacted via WhatsApp (6/11).
This method requires a laptop with software installed, internet and a vital sign monitor. Before consulting via video call, patients must make a time contract with a health worker because patients cannot directly make video calls to prevent overloading the care system. However, if in an emergency the patient can contact directly to get a 24-hour service system which is directly connected to the nearest health facility.
Meanwhile, the Head of the UMM FIKES Nursing Study Program, Nurlailatul Masruroh, appreciated the students' findings. Nurlailatul added, this system is very futuristic and is a long-term solution for the Indonesian people. "I think every hospital should have thought about this in order to reduce the impact of disability and mortality which is getting higher," she said. She at the same time recommended this method to be implemented by the Government. (nain / can)
