Libraries play a crucial role in an institution reputation development. However, the low level of literacy among the public often poses a challenge. This is due to the lack of competence standards among librarians in managing libraries. This was emphasized by the Acting Head of the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia, E. Aminuddin Aziz, M.A., Ph.D., in a seminar entitled 'The Contribution of Libraries in Institution Reputation Development'. This was on the agenda of the Forum of Muhammadiyah Aisyiyah University Libraries (FPPTMA) held at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) on June 5-7. Librarians from various universities in Indonesia also attended.
Furthermore, Aminuddin stated that intervention programs such as the development of reading culture and literacy skills need to be implemented. For example, through the provision of digital reading corners, strengthening libraries at the village or sub-district level, and fulfilling specific library facilities for universities.
"Additionally, it is important to implement library standardization and accreditation policies. This includes librarian training, the need for certification and competency tests for librarians, and strengthening the Indonesian reading movement for potential readers and library visitors," he added.

Meanwhile, Dr. Labibah, MLIS, the Head of the Library at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, also emphasized that libraries should be an integral part of campuses with comprehensive knowledge collections in various formats, whether electronic, print, or digital. "Librarians must be able to create innovative systems to facilitate book access and search. Even campus libraries must have professional programs and services to raise campus awareness of the importance of libraries in seeking knowledge," she explained.
To achieve this goal, librarians need to establish good relationships with other units on campus and integrate library activities with broader academic and administrative needs. This will promote more comprehensive and beneficial library services for the entire academic community.
She also stressed that libraries are not just book storage places but also dynamic centers of intellectual activity. Therefore, libraries must continue to innovate by providing various resources and services relevant to technological developments and user needs. Thus, librarians must be proactive in supporting research, learning, and scholarly publication activities.
In addition to services and access, librarians' branding also plays an important role in enriching the library's function. Dian Puspitasari, S.AP., the II Secretary of PP FPPTMA and a librarian at UMM, stated that librarians' personal branding is formed by three main dimensions.
First, a librarian must have specialized competence in their field. This ability must be balanced with good communication methods. Librarians need to train their public speaking skills and be able to engage as content creators. Participating in various competitions, whether organized by the National Library or other library forums, is also highly recommended to enhance this competence.
"Second is style, which encompasses more than just physical appearance but also personality. By appearing trendy and being able to create innovation, librarians can make a more significant contribution," she emphasized.
Lastly, standards of goals and achievements that librarians must possess. They need to have a specialization covering strong abilities, visions, missions, and principles. Networking with fellow librarians and possessing information literacy skills are also crucial.

Meanwhile, UMM Rector Prof. Dr. Nazaruddin Malik, M.Si., mentioned that FPPTMA plays an important role in improving access to libraries, like the Smart Reading House (RBC) A. Malik Fadjar. Originally a private library of Ahmad Malik Fadjar, it has now been upgraded to digital and has produced many books about the thoughts of Mr. Malik Fadjar. "With forums like this, it is hoped that new ideas will emerge and provide new energy for all of us to envision a better future for Indonesia," he concluded. (lai/wil/fajr)
