The meeting of the Institution of Islamic Boarding School Development (LP3M) at University Muhammadyah Malang (UMM) was opened by the Chief of PP Muhammadyah, Dr. Haedar Nashir, M.Si, on Friday (11/12). Haedar, in the event which was held started from Friday to Sunday (December 11-13), stated that the establishment of LP3M is a mandate from the last 47th Muktamar held in Makassar last August.
“In fact, this is the aspiration of boarding school people and in the last Muktamar, the participants agreed to establish an institution which is responsible for handling Muhammadyah Boarding School,” Haedar said.
According to Haedar, there are some tasks which become the duty of LP3M. Firstly, LP3M is to identify the boarding schools which are under Muhammadyah association. “It is because some boarding schools were directly founded by PP Muhammadyah and the rests were founded by the branches” he asserted.
Apart from association, LP3M has to identify the boarding schools which were individually founded but they have Muhammadyah culture. “He can be an alumni of Muhammadyah or a former board of Muhammadyah then he decided to found a boarding school. This kind of job is LP3M duty,” Haedar said.
The second duty is to decide the pattern or the character of boarding schools’ education. Haedar said that when the founder of Muhammadyah, KH. Ahmad Dahlan, established a school, he cut the traditional habit of the boarding school at that time. “The boarding school at that time only taught theology while only those Dutch schools which taught science. Ahmad Dahlan tried to integrate these two sciences in his school,” he asserted.
The third duty is to strengthen the human resources (SDM), especially the teachers. According to Haedar, the teachers of Muhammdyah have wide networking and many relations. “The wide networking should help the boarding schools development in the future,” he asserted.
The Rector of UMM who is also the Chief of Culture and Education, Prof. Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, MAP, stated that the Muhammadyah boarding schools should not only be upgraded in terms of quality but also quantity. “The boarding schools are one of Muhammadyah ways to create prospective leaders who are not only prepared with theology but also sciences,” Muhadjir said.
The Chief of LP3M and the Executive Consultant of LP3M, Dr. Maskuri, Med, and Ustad Muhammad Muqoddas, were also present in the opening ceremony of this meeting. (zul/han/t_rfd)
