Hajriyanto Y Thohari: Founder of Nation Is a Student Activist

FIGURE of Muhammadiyah who is also Vice Chairman of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), Hajriyanto Y Thohari, attended the Leadership and Student Management (LKMM) event to give "Dynamic Student Movement" materials to activists and leaders of student organizations at University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). The LKMM activity lasted three days (25-27 / 11).

Hajriyanto's experience, both in Muhammadiyah, in MPR, and as chairman of Muhammadiyah Youth Leadership (PP) of 1993-1998 period was considered very valuable for UMM student activists.

On this occasion, Hajriyanto said that the role of students for people and nation is very vital. So, it would be unfortunate if students did not participate in an organization. "Even the founders of the nation, namely Soekarno and Mohammad Hatta, initially a student and active in student organizations and youth," he explained.

In addition, Hajriyanto continued, he advised that every organization should be able to produce leaders such as Muhammadiyah organization which also gave birth to many leaders. According to him, it was strange if there was an organization that couldn’t form its members into someone who has a leader spirit.

"Leaders who are born by an organization are expected to be leaders in other organizations, with the aim that leaders can further develop further," he concluded. (ard)
