Being an auditor increasingly attracts many people, mainly with its high salary. A junior auditor can be paid 6 to 10 million. However, behind the high compensation of an auditor, it requires particular skills which cannot be taken lightly, as said by the accounting lecturer at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Agung Prasetyo Nugroho Wicaksono S.E., M.A.
According to him, those aspiring to be an auditor must understand several things. The first is a deep understanding of audit standards, which is the fundamental key to achieving audit success. "Next, maintaining integrity and responsibility in carrying out the duty is also crucial," asserted the lecturer.
Meanwhile, the minimum requirement for an auditor is a bachelor's degree in economics or accounting. Although administrative qualifications, like grade point average and course grades, are considered, he emphasizes that an audit does not rely solely on formal education.

An auditor must also have strong reading interests, especially in understanding the International Financial Reporting Standards, the Statement of Financial Accounting Standards, and the Audit Standards. "Familiarity with this regulation is a must for prospective auditors to understand more deeply and do their duties properly so as to reach success in their careers," the accounting lecturer continued.
He also recommends future auditors sit for professional certifications, such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA), which are internationally recognized. Those certificates can benefit clients, improve values, and expand an auditor's opportunity.
In addition, an auditor must also master information and technology (IT), especially in this era. In a digital environment, an auditor must be able to utilize sophisticated devices and data analysis techniques, so an auditing process can be streamlined and their work performance can be improved.
Nevertheless, technical skills are insufficient. Communication ability is also a mandatory requirement in being an auditor. "Effective communication skill, both in interacting with clients and reporting audit findings, is the path to a better career. I believe that it is useful for influencing business decisions and giving plus points for clients," Agung emphasized.
Lastly, he advises that when stepping career as an auditor, young people cannot have hard feelings. They must focus on carrying out their duties while expanding their networking skills and enhancing complex knowledge about auditing. (imh/lai/wil)
