The Activity of UMM Amcor, Explains How to Study in the US to Innovative Programs

After successfully holding an info session and exhibition of Education USA, this time, American Corner (AmCor) Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) held an “Info Session on The U.S. Exchange Programs” last Friday (21/10). Agenda in collaboration with the U.S. The Consulate General of Surabaya attended a series of speakers who motivated students to pursue their dreams abroad.

The Cultural Affairs Assistant US Consulate General Surabaya Puguh Budi Susetyo said that there are many programs that young people can participate in, one of which is the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI). Through the YSEALI Academic Fellows Program, students get a series of intensive academic agendas, leadership development, study tours, and experience participating in community service activities.

“The aim of this program is to develop leadership spirit and increase the understanding of youth in ASEAN towards the United States. The program will provide a lot of knowledge and also new things for participants who follow it. There are many youth-based projects that can encourage participants to become leaders,” explained Puguh.

YSEALI is not only intended for students, but also for education staff or lecturers from ASEAN countries. That way, participants can exchange thoughts and ideas. Then implement it in their respective countries.

Also in attendance were the Director of Public Affairs U.S. Embassy Surabaya Joshua Shen who monitored the development of the UMM American Corner and built relationships with volunteers and members. Interestingly, Joshua also confirmed that he would extend the partnership with the International Relations Office (IRO) of UMM. So that there are more programs that can be implemented and followed by students.

“I have heard a lot that AmCor UMM has become a very active AmCor. Apart from the programs that are held by themselves, I see that Amcor UMM also has many partnerships with other parties who have the same goals as the American Spaces mission. Like for example Let's Play and iLitterless. Therefore, we will also extend the partnership," said Joshua.

On the other hand, one of the participants, Eginuari Ilhani, hoped that Amcor could provide an interesting agenda on a regular basis. Besides being able to motivate students to study, according to him, an event like this can provide interesting new things. Especially for those who want or are preparing for an exchange program abroad. “The event was very exciting and I was interested in joining the program, especially in the United States. Who doesn't want to go to the United States, hopefully in the future there will be more exciting programs," Egi concluded. (cdr/zak/wil)
