Welcoming the Ramadan month, the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) increases spirituality through the Ramadan Tarhib Study. The agenda which was held at the Dome also invited the Chairman of the Muhammadiyah East Java Regional Leadership for the 2010-2015 period, Prof. Dr. Thohir Lut, M.A. as a presenter. He gave tausiyah to the employees and lecturers of the White campus on Saturday (2/4) offline with strict health protocols.
Thohir revealed that in classical and contemporary books, other names of fasting and its purpose have been mentioned. In general, the conclusion that can be drawn is to become a muttaqin as stated in the letter Albaqarah verse 183. According to him, a muttaqin are those who have good integrity, both personally and socially.
“Muttaqin are also people who have piety, both individually and socially. So as humans, we need a power that can help and inspire. One of them is the spiritual power of hablum minallah such as fasting," he added.

Furthermore, Thohir explained, Imam Ghazali in his book mentions that the word "shiyam" is more related to refraining from self-related problems. While the word "shoum" is only written in Maryam's letter is interpreted to refrain from spiritual problems, namely wanting and always getting closer to Allah SWT.
Thohir also invited UMM lecturers and employees to celebrate Ramadan as well as possible. Until later it gives rise to the final impression to become a person of integrity. Show more examples in life whenever and wherever we are.
"In the nabawiyah sirah, we can see that the success of the Islamic symbols brought by the Prophet was not due to the many words on the pulpit. But more to the example that is always shown to be able to melt them to embrace Islam. Once again, I hope this Ramadan can make us human beings who have faith and piety," he said.

Meanwhile, the Rector of UMM, Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd. explained that the month of Ramadan always comes every year. However, not everyone can meet the coming of the holy month. Some are hindered by age and death. There is also a second, more dangerous reason, namely the lack of sensitivity to the essence of Ramadan.
"So, this tarhib study is an effort to liven up that feeling so that this Ramadan can be filled with good and useful things," he added.
During the fasting month, White Campus employees and lecturers will always be invited to identify themselves through activities that are spiritual in nature. Fauzan also advised to carry out the true fasting worship, not just holding back hunger and thirst. (cdr/wil)
