Having international teaching experience is one of Dessy Maria Ulfa’s dreams. Dessy who was born in Maluku started her international teaching experience in 2016, saying ,”Vietnam is the first country where I started my teaching experience”. Dessy is a student of Primary School Teacher Education Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Muhammadiyah Malang.
Although she failed for several times, but she never gave up. Through those failures, she becomes more confident because she has many experiences in trying. “This is better because I have more teaching theories”.
Once, she applied for a teaching program in Sakura country, Japan. Unfortunately, she was not accepted. But, she did not give up. This beautiful girl kept trying by applying for other international teaching programs. “I was not accepted in a program in Japan. So, I thought I had to set goals and developed my skills”.
Fortunately, her struggle was not in vain. At the end of 2016, she was chosen as a volunteer for a social project “Hope for Children” in Vietnam. The next year, she got a chance to be a teacher at Footprints International School in Cambodia. Living in Angkor Wat country for three months gave difficulty for her. She got a problem about language. Dessy said, “I had a problem about language that was when I had to communicate with people there”.
Feeling not enough having teaching experiences in Southeast Asia, Dessy who was actively joining AIESEC joined a teaching program in China at the beginning of 2017. She is teaching in Shenyang Forest International Kindergarten, China. She gains a lot of life lessons there.
Dessy told her experience when a minority is considered unable to teach. She almost gave up and it was like she just went back to Indonesia. “Once, one of a student’s parent did not allow her child to come to my class. At that time, the desire to go back to Indonesia was so big”. Fortunately, her mother always supports her. Her support made Dessy’s spirit appear again. She meant to finish her teaching contract there. In the end, her international teaching experiences made her maximize her study time at UMM. ,”Two years studying at UMM, I lived my live by joining organizations that lead me to have international teaching experience”.
